  • Do you offer a free consultation before my photo session?
Yes, absolutely! We offer a complimentary pre-shoot consultation for all clients. This free consultation can be done in person at our Halifax studio or over the phone/Zoom – whatever works best for you. It’s a chance for us to get acquainted and for you to share your vision, ask questions, and discuss ideas for your session. During this chat, we’ll cover things like the look and style you’re going for, location options, what to wear, and any special requests. A pre-session consultation is included as part of our service because we want you to feel comfortable and excited going into your shoot.
  • What if I need to reschedule or if the weather is bad on our shoot day?
We completely understand that life happens – sometimes you need to reschedule, or the Nova Scotia weather doesn’t cooperate on the day of an outdoor shoot. If something comes up, just let us know as soon as you can, and we’ll do our best to find a new date that works. In the case of bad weather (like heavy rain on the day of an outdoor session), we will happily reschedule at no additional cost. We keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to outdoor shoots and will be proactive in communicating with you if it looks like a change is needed. Your deposit will simply roll over to the new date. We can also discuss backup plans – for example, moving the shoot to an indoor location or our Halifax studio if re-scheduling isn’t possible and you still need to shoot that day. Our goal is to be as flexible and accommodating as possible. We know how unpredictable Maritime weather can be, so don’t worry – we always have a plan B to ensure you still get great photos.
  • What photography services does Bluenose Studio offer?
Bluenose Studio is a full-service Nova Scotia photo studio offering a wide range of photography services for the Halifax community. Our team provides portrait photography (individuals, couples, and families), maternity and baby shoots, graduation and family portraits, wedding photography, event coverage, product and food/menu photography, and professional headshots. Whether you’re looking for a wedding photographer Halifax couples trust for their big day or a creative family portrait session in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), we’ve got you covered. We have experience with both in-studio sessions and on-location shoots, so you can count on us for everything from corporate events to intimate newborn photos.
  • How should I prepare for my photo session (what should I wear, etc.)?
Preparing for your session should be fun, not stressful! We recommend wearing something that makes you feel comfortable and reflects your personal style. Solid colors or simple patterns tend to photograph well, and it’s a good idea to avoid super busy prints or large logos that might distract from your face. If it’s a group or family session, try coordinating colors or themes among the group (you don’t all have to match exactly, but having a complementary color palette looks great in photos). For specific types of shoots – like maternity, newborn, or professional headshots – we can give tailored outfit suggestions during your consultation. After you book, we’ll provide you with tips and guidelines to help you prepare. This might include advice on selecting outfits, grooming (like haircuts or makeup, if desired), and whether to bring any props or personal items. For example, if it’s a baby or child session, we might suggest bringing their favorite toy or a blanket to help them feel at ease. The key is that you feel good in what you’re wearing and excited for the session. We’re here to guide you through the whole process, so you’ll go into your shoot feeling prepared and confident.
  • Do you edit or retouch the photos after the session?
Yes, we do. Photo editing and retouching are included as part of our service for all the images we deliver. After the session, we go through all the photos and select the best ones, then edit each of those images to make sure they look amazing. This includes adjusting things like lighting, color balance, and cropping for optimal composition. We also perform basic retouching – for instance, we can smooth out minor skin blemishes or stray hairs and make sure the overall image quality is top-notch. The goal is to have you looking your best while still keeping the photos natural and true to life. If you have specific retouching requests (for example, editing out a distraction in the background or doing a special stylized edit), we are happy to discuss that as well. Minor touch-ups are generally part of the package, but extensive Photoshop work or special effects can be done for an additional fee if needed. However, in most cases our standard editing covers everything clients want. We do not release unedited RAW images, because we believe in delivering a finished product that meets our professional quality standards. Rest assured, the final photos you receive will be beautifully edited, polished, and ready to print or share.
  • Are sessions at your studio or can we choose a location in Halifax (HRM)?
We’re happy to be flexible with session locations. Bluenose Studio has a fully equipped indoor studio located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is perfect for portraits, headshots, and controlled settings. However, if you prefer an on-location shoot, we can definitely accommodate that anywhere in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). We frequently shoot at clients’ homes, outdoor parks, event venues, or other meaningful spots around Halifax and Dartmouth. In fact, some of the best backdrops are right here in Nova Scotia’s scenic locations! We serve the entire HRM area (from downtown Halifax to Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville, and beyond), so you can choose the location that fits your vision. If you have a special request outside the HRM or elsewhere in Nova Scotia, just let us know – we can often travel for sessions (a minor travel fee may apply for longer distances).
  • What are your photography session prices and packages?
Our pricing is designed to be transparent and accommodating for different needs. We offer several photography packages based on the type of session – for example, we have standard packages for family or maternity shoots, and tailored packages for weddings and events. The cost can vary depending on the duration of the session and what’s included. As a general guide, a basic portrait session might include a set number of edited digital images, while a full-day wedding package would include more coverage and possibly a second shooter. We’re happy to provide a detailed price list or a custom quote once we know what you’re looking for. We strive to keep our rates competitive among Halifax photographers, and there are no hidden fees. All pricing will be discussed up front. If you have a budget in mind, let us know – we can often adjust or create a custom package that suits you. For exact rates and package details, please contact us or check our pricing page, as our rates can vary depending on the session type and length. And remember, the initial consultation is free, so you can explore your options with us without any commitment.
